DNS hosting
Keep your domain's DNS on Meghly — the records your email and apps need are added by themselves, and the rest are managed from one page.
DNS is the internet's address book: when someone types shop.com.bd, DNS records say which server to reach and where mail is delivered. With the domain's DNS on Meghly, you no longer add the records for your email and apps by hand.
Adding a domain
- On the panel's DNS page, type the domain and click Add domain.
- Open it: Point your domain at our nameservers shows Meghly's two nameservers.
- At the company you bought the domain from (the registrar), change the domain's nameservers to these two.
- Once the change takes effect, the domain moves from Waiting for nameservers to Active. Check now checks at any time.
A nameserver change usually takes effect within an hour, though at some registrars it can take up to 24 hours.
Records added by themselves
As soon as the domain is added, Meghly creates these records:
- When business email runs on the same domain, all its mail records — MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and the tracking CNAME (marked "Mail").
- When an app runs on a name in this domain, an
Arecord for that app's server (marked "App" with the app's name).
Records a service you add later needs show as suggestions under Records your services need; Add these records adds them all at once.
Adding records yourself
In Records, Add record adds a record:
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Type | A, AAAA, CNAME, MX or TXT |
| Name | @ for the domain itself, just the name for a sub-domain (such as www or blog) |
| Priority | MX records only (usually 10) |
| Value | The record's value — an IP address, another domain or text |
| TTL | How long other servers remember the record: 5 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours or 24 hours |
Then click Save record. Every record is checked before it is saved, so a bad value cannot take the whole domain down.
The rules
- The domain itself (
@) cannot be aCNAME; use anArecord there. - A name with a
CNAMEcan have no other records. - A
TXTrecord holds at most 4,000 characters; long DKIM keys are split by themselves. - A domain holds at most 500 records, and an account at most 50 domains.
SOAandNSrecords are managed by Meghly.
When something goes wrong
| What you see | Cause and fix |
|---|---|
| The domain stays Waiting for nameservers | Check both nameservers are set at the registrar and remove the old ones. |
| "The domain itself (@) cannot be a CNAME" | Use an A record for the domain itself. |
| A new record does not work yet | Some servers remember the old value until its TTL runs out; wait a little. |
| No HTTPS on an app's domain | Check the A record points to the app's server; see Domains and HTTPS. |
