Running apps
Domains and HTTPS
Put your own domain on an app — one DNS record, and Meghly does the rest. SSL certificates are free and renew by themselves.
The app's own address
Every app gets an HTTPS address as soon as it is made, shown on its Overview. It is fine for testing; give your customers your own domain.
Adding your own domain
- On the app's Domains & SSL page, type the domain under Hostname and add it — such as
shop.com.bdorapp.shop.com.bd. - Set up its DNS:
- If the domain's DNS is in Meghly's DNS, the record is added for you — nothing to do.
- If it is elsewhere (Cloudflare, Namecheap, your registrar), add the record below.
- Once DNS answers, a free Let's Encrypt certificate arrives, usually within two minutes. When the domain shows Active, HTTPS is on.
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
A | @ (the bare domain) or a subdomain such as app | the IP of the server the app runs on |
CNAME | a subdomain such as app | the app's own address |
A bare domain (shop.com.bd) cannot have a CNAME — use an A record there. A subdomain can have either.
www and the bare domain
To have both www.shop.com.bd and shop.com.bd, add each as its own Hostname. Then, on the one that is not the main address (say www), use Redirects to send the whole domain to the main one (301 permanent, with keep the path). That way search engines see a single address.
With Cloudflare
- Keep the record DNS only (grey cloud) until the certificate has arrived.
- To turn on Cloudflare's proxy (orange cloud) after that, set the SSL/TLS mode to Full (strict). Do not use Flexible — it can cause a redirect loop.
When no certificate comes
| Why | What to do |
|---|---|
| DNS has not spread yet | Wait a few minutes; check with nslookup shop.com.bd that the right IP comes back |
An old AAAA (IPv6) record points elsewhere | Remove it, or point it at the right address |
| Cloudflare's proxy is on | Keep DNS only until the certificate is issued |
A CAA record leaves out Let's Encrypt | Add letsencrypt.org to the CAA record |
Meghly renews certificates by itself before they expire.
WebSockets
WebSockets (SignalR, socket.io, Laravel Reverb) work the same on your own domain; nothing extra is needed.
